Josh Smith, Ph.D.
Josh joined the Characterization and Comparability Lab in 2013, where he undertook his Ph.D. in conjunction with Trinity College Dublin. His thesis focused on early-stage gastric cancer biomarker discovery through the development and application of LC and LC-MS platforms for in-depth characterization of the gastric cancer serum glycome, proteome and glycoproteome. Following completion of his Ph.D. in 2018, he undertook a role focused on evaluating the impact of production media quality on monoclonal antibody (MAb) critical quality attributes (CQAs). Subsequently, he took a position characterizing adeno-associated virus (AAV) capsid proteins and their host-cell protein (HCP) contaminants. Josh is now a part of Dr. Bones’s collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific where his work focuses on using state-of-the-art LC-MS technologies to characterize cell and gene therapies, with a specific focus on viral vectors.
