Dr Laura Breen

Laura joined the Cell Technology group in NIBRT in 2021 as a senior research scientist to work on the Enterprise Ireland funded collaboration with J.M. Canty Ltd. This project investigates the use of various process analytical technology to improve the monitoring of mammalian cells in bioprocesses.

Laura graduated with a BSc in Biotechnology from Dublin City University in 2001. She then moved to the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology (NICB), where she completed her PhD with a thesis entitled “Drug Resistance and the role of p53, in Lung Cancer”. Laura is particularly experienced in mammalian cell culture and has extensive post-doctoral experience in cancer, diabetes and CHO cell engineering. She was the microarray core facility manager in NICB for several years and has also been involved in many academic-industrial collaborations with companies such as Pfizer and Alltech.
