Dr. Elizabeth Matthews

Elizabeth Matthews is an analytical scientist with over 15 years of experience working in the life sciences. She started her career as a research technician at University College Dublin. Elizabeth received her PhD in Biochemistry from University College Dublin in 2011 and, since qualifying, has worked in a multidisciplinary capacity managing the scientific, regulatory, and business demands of an assay services laboratory. Over the course of her career, she has contributed to a wide variety of research projects as both a technical lead and a student supervisor. Her main areas of research have been focused on the structural and functional characterisation of O-glycosylation at mucosal surfaces and, more recently, developing novel, high-throughput methods for the analysis of GSL and free glycan human milk-derived oligosaccharides. She is currently working in the Cell technology group at NIBRT on an Enterprise Ireland grant in collaboration with GlycoSelect. This work is focused on the development and application of novel lectin affinity resins to isolate specific Mab glycoforms and enhance downstream solid-state chemoenzymatic In Vitro Glycoengineering.
