Silvia Millán Martín

I obtained my BSc in Pharmacy (2003) and PhD in Analytical Chemistry (2007) from University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU, Spain), being my work focused on the development of chromatographic analytical methodologies for the determination of oenological importance compounds. As part of my grant, I also worked at the Central Analysis Service of the UPV/EHU in Alava on the development of chromatographic techniques (LC-MS, GC-MS) for the identification and quantification of environmental, pharmaceutical and nutritional significance compounds. On 2008 I joined Shirota Functional Foods S.L. (Reus, Spain) as part of the Analytical Unit where my work focused on the development of chromatographic techniques based on Mass Spectrometry for the identification and quantification of bioactive compounds in natural sources and biological samples with the aim of evaluate their health benefits. In September 2012 I joined NIBRT becoming part of the GlycoScience group as a postdoctoral researcher in the Mass Spec Lab and working on academic and contract research projects with biopharma companies. My work has been focused on full detailed glycan analysis by MS and other orthogonal techniques for N- and O- glycan characterisation in biotherapeutics and biological samples. In September 2016 I joined the Characterisation and Comparability Laboratory leaded by Jonathan Bones as an Applications Scientist to collaborate with Thermo Fisher Scientific on the development of new applications for the characterisation of biopharmaceuticals (monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, ADCs, etc) and the associated processes used for their production.
