Press Release: NIBRT Partners with Parker to Enhance Biopharma Training with Cutting-Edge Equipment Donation

Dublin, Ireland, 26th November 2024 – The National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) is proud to announce a new partnership with Parker Hannifin’s Bioscience Filtration Division, who specialise in filtration and sensor technology, to provide state-of-the-art equipment to its training facility. This collaboration will see the donation of Parker’s advanced SciLog® FD System, an automated single-use system designed for the final bulk filtration and dispensing of formulated biopharmaceutical drug substance.

The SciLog® FD System enables safe, efficient, and accurate processing of valuable biopharmaceutical products, offering trainees a system to gain hands-on experience with the latest industry technology.

Key benefits for NIBRT trainees include:

  • Real-world experience: Trainees will gain direct experience with automated systems used in commercial biopharma production, learning how to maximise efficiency, minimise product loss, and ensure product safety.
  • Flexible control options: The system allows for manual, semi-automatic, and fully automated operations, helping students develop versatile skills applicable to a range of bioprocessing environments.
  • Regulatory compliance: Training with equipment that meets international standards for GMP, FDA, and EU regulations ensures that graduates are fully prepared to work in compliance with global industry practices.
  • Efficiency and precision: The system’s high dispensing accuracy and low processing time teach trainees how to optimise production processes, critical for reducing waste and maximising yield in biopharma manufacturing.

Kate Cotter Director of Training Delivery at NIBRT, commented: “We are excited to partner with Parker in this important initiative. The donation of the SciLog® FD System aligns with NIBRT’s mission to provide the highest standard of biopharma training. Our trainees will benefit enormously from working with this advanced technology, preparing them to enter the workforce with industry-relevant skills and experience.”

David Heaney, Division Marketing Manager at Parker Hannifin’s Bioscience Division, added: “Parker Bioscience are delighted to be able to support the fantastic work done at NIBRT. The addition of the Scilog® FD to NIBRT’s portfolio will allow biopharma professionals to gain experience using a single-use, automated and fully enclosed bulk filling system. This is increasingly important in the bioprocessing industry as new regulatory and quality concerns continue to drive the prominence of enclosed processing, particularly at this crucial process step, post DSP.”

The SciLog® FD System automates key biopharma processes, including the filtration and dispensing of products into sterile bags or bottles, while ensuring both operator safety and product integrity. The system supports a variety of dispensing methods, features real-time integrity testing, and offers electronic batch records and audit trails for regulatory compliance.

This partnership reinforces NIBRT’s commitment to maintaining its position as a leader in biopharma training by providing students with access to the most innovative technologies in the sector. By working with industry partners like Parker, NIBRT continues to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry practice.
