NIBRT Principal Investigators secure €1.25 million to support stable chemically modified mRNA vaccines

On the 30th of May, the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, announced sixty-two grants valued at €42 million to support research across Education and Research institutions in Ireland. NIBRT Principal Investigators, Elizabeth Topp and Stephen Ferguson secured funding of €1.25 million to support their work on stable chemically modified mRNA vaccines.

Commenting on the award NIBRT CEO, Darrin Morrissey remarked “We at NIBRT are delighted to be recipients of this funding from the SFI Frontiers of the Futures Programme, which we believe is a strong endorsement of the excellent research being conducted by Professor Topp and Professor Ferguson. The work that Liz and Stephen will be doing will help optimise the manufacture of mRNA-based therapies and vaccines and will address the inherent challenges of making this important therapeutic modality, for the benefit of the biopharma industry, for regulators and for patients.”
