NIBRT hosts US research students
NIBRT has recently hosted a group of students from Thomas Jefferson University and Purdue University who have been conducting an eight-week research project at NIBRT. The students were participating in the National Science Foundation (NSF) International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program. The research projects were under the supervision of NIBRT Principal Investigators Dr. Alan Costello, Prof. Mark Smales, Assoc. Prof Radka Fahey and Prof. Sakis Mantalaris. Alongside their research projects the students also completed in a two-day training course in NIBRT’s training facility deepening their practical understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing. A key component of the program is that the students experience a wider understanding of the industry in Ireland so a tour was arranged for the students at the manufacturing facility at Pfizer Grangecastle.
The student’s also spent some time exploring Ireland, taking cultural excursions to Wicklow Gaol, the Wild Atlantic Way and the Giant’s Causeway to name a few.
This is the third year that NIBRT has hosted students as part of the NSF IRES Program.
