Research Associate

Research – Characterisation and Compatibility Lab

Vacancy Summary

As a research associate within the Characterisation and Comparability Laboratory (CCL) you will develop analytical methods for the characterisation of different biopharmaceutical entities ranging from large complex recombinant proteins to peptide and oligonucleotide therapies. You will develop separation strategies to explore the range of different forms present in each molecule and then characterise these using high-resolution mass spectrometry. You’ll take pride in your research, and you’ll be motivated to publish and present your data to show the world what you’ve done.

Role Purpose

We develop and apply advanced analytical methods for biopharmaceutical characterisation using our core competencies of liquid phase separations and high-resolution mass spectrometry to achieve our goal. We’re committed to working with our academic and industry collaborative research partners, whose mission aligns strongly with ours, to do excellent science and deliver real impact so that everyone benefits. If you want to do excellent science, if you’re dedicated and want to make an impact, then come join us.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will develop liquid phase separation method using either liquid chromatography or capillary electrophoresis coupled to Orbitrap mass spectrometry for the characterisation of complex recombinant protein biopharmaceuticals, therapeutic peptides or oligonucleotides.
  • You will explore advanced MS acquisition methods and strategies to increase the depth of your analytical methods.
  • You will become an expert in the annotation of the data that you generate using different bioinformatics approaches to identify and annotate the different molecular forms present in the molecules under study.
  • Create and maintain high quality documentation and you’ll actively publish and present your research outputs.
  • Contribute to the on-going learning and success of the CCL team.

Essential Criteria

  • You understand the challenges of biopharmaceutical characterisation and be motivated to develop and apply LC, CE and MS methods to deliver impactful solutions to these challenges.
  • You understand the complexities of MS data annotation for proteins and peptides and have some experience in the implementation and usage of bioinformatics strategies to maximise the output of your experimental data.
  • You hold a postgraduate degree in a discipline that makes you suitable for this challenge during which practical usage of analytical instrumentation, ideally LC, CE and MS instruments, played a major component.
