Role Purpose
As a member of the CCL team, you will be responsible for the development of advanced characterisation workflows to understand variability associated with cell culture media using metabolomic style approaches based on liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution Orbitrap MS for discovery and Stellar MS for targeted workflows. You’ll use your experience in method development to address challenges relating to sample prep, analysis and data processing to deliver solutions and insights into differences and dynamics within samples. You’ll take pride in your research, and you’ll be motivated to publish and present your data to show the world what you’ve done.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply methods for characterising the small molecule component of cell culture media using metabolomic style approaches using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, both high-resolution Orbitrap MS for discovery and Stellar MS for targeted screening.
- Validate the developed methods according to best practice guidelines to establish their performance characteristics and demonstrate the quality of your developed approach to stakeholders.
- Evaluate and apply cutting-edge data analysis strategies and statistical methods to understand differences and dynamics within various sample sets to understand and decipher what is changing and why.
- Create and maintain high quality documentation and you’ll actively publish and present your research outputs.
- Contribute to the on-going learning and success of the CCL team.
NIBRT Employee Responsibilities:
At NIBRT, our purpose is to support the Biopharma Industry in Ireland and beyond. - Support colleagues and the institute by promoting the work and services of NIBRT through your media and networks.
Essential Criteria
- You hold a PhD in a discipline that makes you suitable for this challenge during which practical usage of liquid chromatography mass spectrometry instrumentation played a major component.
- You have proven practical experience in the development and application of LC-MS methods to deliver impactful solutions for metabolomics workflows or the analysis of complex mixtures of small molecules.
- You understand the complexities of MS data annotation and have experience in the implementation and usage of novel bioinformatics strategies and statistical approaches, in particular, multivariate statistical methods, to maximise the output of your experimental data.
Required Skills & Competencies
- You’re a passionate communicator who is well able to articulate their science using written and verbal English to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- You’re hardworking, you embrace challenges and you’re motivated by the situations and environment that you find yourself in to do excellent research and deliver impactful science whilst always being safety conscious.
- You’re curious and ambitious, you have a track record of proposing and performing excellent analytical science which drives you to achieve, ideally demonstrated through a history of peer-reviewed publication.
- You have excellent self-awareness; you can adapt and maintain focus and composure when research poses its challenges.
