Brendan O’Callaghan Award in Biopharmaceutical Engineering

After over a decade of dedicated service Brendan O’Callaghan recently retired from his role as Chairman of NIBRT. NIBRT has honoured Brendan’s exemplary contribution to the Institute and to the Irish biopharma sector by funding a special annual academic award in his name, to be awarded to the top student in the UCD Masters in Biopharmaceutical Engineering class each year for the next ten years.

NIBRT was delighted to present our first Brendan O’Callaghan Award in Biopharmaceutical Engineering award to Sheryl Lim on the same day that she graduated with her Masters from UCD. Sheryl was presented with a commemorative medal by Brendan and a €1500 prize for her wonderful achievement. We would like to offer our warm congratulations to Sheryl and to her parents, who also attended the event. The presentation ceremony was also attended by Prof Jessica Whelan and Prof Susan McDonnell from the UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Brendan O’Callaghan. NIBRT is the institute it is today because of Brendan’s years of commitment, skill and expert guidance in going above and beyond in his Non-Executive leadership duties. From all of the staff at NIBRT a huge thank you and we wish you every success in his regular ‘day-job’, the not-insignificant role of Executive Vice President for Global Industrial Affairs at Sanofi.
