Dr. Aswathy Balakrishnan

Aswathy graduated with a PhD in Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering from NIBRT and UCD (2025) with the EPSRC-Research Ireland Centre for Doctoral Training in Transformative Pharmaceutical Technologies, where she worked on the formulation and stability of mRNA and mRNA lipid nanoparticles, lyophilisation and its effect on stability. She holds a master’s in Biopharmaceutical Engineering from UCD (2020) and a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology, India (2019). Upon completion of her PhD, Aswathy stayed on at NIBRT and to work as a postdoctoral research scientist in the Formulation and Stability Laboratory, focusing on digitalisation and in-process monitoring of lyophilisation of biologics.
